Scaffolds Stories documents people across Asia making, building and creating.
We are interested in the work itself — how it began, how it developed, and the choices, experiments and experiences that shaped it along the way.
Why We Exist
Interesting work rarely has a straightforward beginning.
People arrive at what they do in different ways. Some follow a long-held interest. Others stumble into something unexpected, change direction, or slowly build a practice over time.
Scaffolds Stories exists to document those journeys.
By looking beyond the finished work, we hope to capture more of what goes into making it — the thinking, learning, persistence and occasional uncertainty behind the outcome.
Together, these stories offer a growing picture of creative practice across Asia.
What We Do
We speak with artists, makers, founders and independent practitioners about their work and the paths that led them there.
Each story looks at:
- The Journey — How the work began and how it has evolved
- The Work — What they make, build or do, and how they approach it
- The Thinking — The ideas, decisions and experiences that shape their practice
Through interviews and visual storytelling, we document the people, practices and places behind independent creative work.
About KWHD / Scaffolds
Scaffolds Stories is a project by KWHD / Scaffolds.
KWHD builds and supports projects across education, creativity and entrepreneurship.
Through Scaffolds, we design experiential learning programmes that give young people opportunities to explore their interests, develop capabilities and apply what they learn in real-world contexts.
Scaffolds Stories extends that curiosity beyond the classroom by documenting people who have built practices, projects and businesses of their own.
How We Select Stories
We look for people with an interesting relationship to their work.
That might mean a distinctive craft, an unusual path, a strong point of view, years spent refining a practice, or simply a story we think is worth looking at more closely.
We are especially interested in people who are willing to speak openly about how their work has developed — including what changed, what did not work and what they are still figuring out.
